Congressional App Challenge

Congratulations to Daylon Smith (Bethel HS) and Cameron Love (Bethel HS) for winning the 3rd Congressional District App Challenge for their app HBCU Connect.  They will compete in April 2024 at the National level at Washington D.C.   Kudos on a job well done!

Annual staff chili cookoff brought the HEAT!  Only one chili maestro claimed the crown, facing fierce competition from new contenders. Spicy flavors, great fellowship – a simmering success! Vet Science at Woodside Lane

Students were given the opportunity to visit Isle of Wight County Schools Agricultural Land Lab.  It is a barn built by the Career and Technical students that house animals involved in production farming.  The animals there are not pets; they all serve a purpose, and the students who attend the Ag classes are learning important lessons in animal care, nutrition, husbandry and more.

Hampton Roads Public Works Academy at Woodside Lane

toured the Recovery Operations Center in Newport News on October 25th. Along with learning about all of the Plumbing and Pipefitting necessary to run and maintain a landfill, the students were informed about environmental waste, helpful and profitable by-products, and the best ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Ribbon Cutting at Woodside

New Horizons welcomed Dominion Energy, The NEED Project, regional school superintendents, and other esteemed guests to celebrate the official beginning of The Wind for Students Initiative in Electricity & Renewable Energy class. A 30-foot ARIS Renewable Energy Wind Turbine, installed by Design Telecommunications, was showcased with guest speakers, a ribbon ceremony, and light refreshments for participants. The school was also featured on the news, which can be viewed here.
