Regional Enrichment Program

The Governor's Academy for Innovation Technology and Engineering provides a series of enrichment programs through the Engineering Technology Exploratory Saturday Series and the Engineering Technology Summer Camp.

These enrichment programs help you to:

  • Develop an Academic and Career Plan (ACP) that will prepare you for GAITE's Academy for Engineering Technology
  • Understand career options in engineering technology and understand the academic preparation needed to pursue these careers.
  • Experience hands-on sessions, presentations, role models, and exposure to engineering technology related programs and activities

Engineering Technology Exploratory Saturday Series for 7th and 8th graders

A regional series of three Saturday events (approximately 4-6 hours), designed and facilitated by GAITE partners, to engage and inspire students to pursue careers in engineering technology and other STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.

  • Each event highlights a STEM theme with hands-on activities such as robotics, rockets, etc.
  • Offered at regional colleges and STEM employers
  • Students and parent sessions
  • Interactive problem based application activities
  • Guest speakers
  • Understanding of engineering and engineering technology occupations
  • Selective application process managed by GAITE Advisory Council

Engineering Technology Summer Camp for 9th and 10th graders
A regional, three-day summer camp, designed and facilitated by GAITE partners to immerse students in project-based learning resulting in a deeper understanding of the field of engineering technology, career possibilities, and the required academic pathways.

  • Project-based theme critical to engineering technology
  • Hands-on and interactive activities
  • Feature keynote speakers and leaders from local employers
  • Exploratory sessions related to engineering technology
  • Review of student's Academic and Career Plan
  • Selective application process managed by GAITE Advisory Council

Engineering Technology Exploratory Saturday Series for 10th and 11th graders
Students will be introduced to engineering technology through interactive hands-on activities and demonstrations. Workshop presenters include guest speakers and engineering technologists from NASA Langley Research Center, Northrop Grumman, Canon Virginia, Thomas Nelson Community College and more.
