The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center is a multi-purpose cultural space in the Southeast community of Newport News, Virginia. Originally built as the Walter Reed School in 1917, this historic building has been restored and open to the public since October 2008. In February, the Center put on a performance of “Sister Act”. The YWC Building Maintenance Tech students assisted in building the set over a 4 week period. These students were in the Work Experience program and built doors, platforms, stages and helped create set designs. The students received a stipend for their experience.
