Where students gain the knowledge and skills to become future STEM innovators and leaders.
The Governor’s School is a selective magnet program that serves high achieving juniors and seniors from seven school divisions: the cities of Hampton, Newport News, and Poquoson and the counties of Isle of Wight, Gloucester, Williamsburg/James City, and York.
Students spend half their day at The Governor’s School, taking math, science, and research courses taught by faculty with advanced STEM degrees. Courses offer college level content enriched by sophisticated, hands-on labs, real world projects, and collaboration with highly motivated peers. Seniors complete a capstone project of their choice, guided by science professionals. In addition to course work, students engage in multiple competitions and extracurricular activities.
