New Horizons Announces New Administrator at the Center for Autism and Newport Academy

The Center for Autism and Newport Academy, a division of New Horizons Regional Education Centers (NHREC), recently announced the appointment of Dr. Joy Richardson to the position of special education coordinator for the Center for Autism 9-12 program and Newport Academy ED/ID programs. She has over 18 years of teaching and leadership experience in the field of special education.
“I am very excited to join the NHREC Team,” said Richardson. “When teachers, students, families, and school leaders work toward a common goal and are dedicated to a common vision, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.”
Richardson brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Most recently serving as the acting senior director of Special Education for Norfolk City Schools. She has also served in various other leadership positions with Hampton City Schools and other divisions in Northern Virginia. She holds a doctorate degree in Adult Education, an Ed.S. in Special Education Leadership, and a masters in Cross-Categorical Special Education all from Regent University. Richardson also holds a masters in Human Resource Development from George Washington University and received her bachelor of arts degree in Speech Communication/Dispute Resolution from James Madison University.
Richardson is passionate about building efficacy and capacity with teachers and staff, strengthening relationships with parents, and fostering positive academic and social-emotional outcomes to ensure access and opportunity for all students.
“Her experience as a practitioner and leader successfully serving multiple school divisions throughout her career offers her a unique perspective that will serve the students at the Center of Autism and Newport Academy well. Her commitment and passion for students make her a perfect fit for the Center for Autism and Newport Academy ED/ID program,” hailed Mr. Casey Roberts, NHREC Executive Director.

New Horizons Summer 2020 Schedule

As a reminder, New Horizons Regional Education Centers will be moving to a four-day weekly schedule, Monday through Thursday, during the summer months. Schools and offices will be closed on Fridays from June 26th through August 21, 2020. #SummerSchedule #BoldlyGoing

All offices and schools will be open from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday-Thursday.

Public Notice: NHREC Board of Trustees Meeting–May 26, 2020

The New Horizons Regional Education Centers (NHREC) Board of Trustees will conduct its monthly meeting electronically at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 to ensure social distancing and public gathering protocols in compliance with the Governor’s order. 

The Board of Trustees’ meeting agenda includes updates on the FY 2021 Budget Adoption, SY 21 CTE Program Fees, Regional Calendar Adoption, Boldy Go 2025 Strategic Plan Update, Program Enrollment Report, and upcoming celebratory events. View the complete agenda.
