NHREC LeadershipMs. Vikki L. Wismer has over twenty-five years of experience in the field of education with a diverse background in business. Ms. Wismer earned her M.S. in Elementary Education specializing in Montessori from Loyola College, B.A. in Public Affairs/Administration of Justice from American University and Advanced Professional Certificate in Administration / Supervision from Trinity College.
As a public school administrator for the past twenty years, Ms. Wismer has had experience in a variety of venues and grade levels. She was a Principal/Change Agent for two magnet secondary/elementary public schools in Maryland. Both were PreK-8th grade schools and one of a few magnet programs replicated due to high student academic achievement. During her tenure, Ms. Wismer was a recipient of the Maryland State Governor’s Citation two years in a row, she was recognized for impressive dedication to instructional leadership in Maryland schools on behalf of young people; in honor of a professional commitment to the establishment of a school environment conducive to teaching and learning; and continuous focus on student achievement through meeting the needs of each individual child.
Ms. Wismer served as an Educational Consultant with the Smithsonian National Museum of American History’s Teacher Advisory Committee. As a committee member, she collaborated with the History Channel to publish Save Our History – The Star-Spangled Banner Project. The manual was distributed to 80,000 elementary school teachers nationwide.
Since 2008, Ms. Wismer has served as the Director of the New Horizons Governor’s School for Science & Technology (GSST). GSST is one of nineteen Academic-Year Governor’s Schools in Virginia that serve as regional magnet programs for gifted students.
