ABOUT:
- One-year program for students interested in working professionally with young children
- Students can earn six dual enrollment credits with Virginia Peninsula Community College
- You will be able to use your critical thinking skills, practical problem-solving skills, and gain knowledge of entrepreneurship opportunities within the field
- Gain practical experiences through observations and internships under the supervision of the instructor
- Learn how to plan developmentally appropriate lessons and activities
- Gain knowledge of the theory behind the Early Childhood years, such as:
- Planning a safe and healthy learning environment
- Steps to advance children’s physical and intellectual development
- Positive ways to support children’s social and emotional development
- Establishing positive and productive relationships with families
- Strategies to manage and effective program of operation
- Observation and recording of children’s behavior
- Principles of child growth and development
- Participation in practical work experiences
STUDENTS STUDY:

PREREQUISITES:
- Good academic standing, attendance, and behavior.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English Language.
- Required to have completed English 10 with a grade of “C” or above.
- Have a current Tuberculin skin test.
CAMPUS LOCATION:
Woodside Lane CTE Campus (Newport News, Virginia)
SESSIONS:
A.M. and P.M. sessions are available.
CLASS SIZE:
20 students per session.

BIO:
I am Teri Bane, the Early Childhood Education Instructor. I have many years of experience working in the Early Childhood field. I joined New Horizons in 2019 to teach Early Childhood Education. I have taught children from Preschool up to Third Grade and have enjoyed them all.
