ABOUT:

  • Prepares for employment as entry level carpenter or construction worker.
  • Prepares students to pursue post-secondary education in multiple construction fields such as construction management, design and mechanical fields.
  • Employment opportunities strong with 5% to 8% growth with average salary of $42,000 in Hampton Roads
  • One Year Program (students can elect to take Building Construction III their 2nd year)

STUDENTS WILL:

Design and build projects
Learn Construction Industry Standards
Estimate jobs
Become certified in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards and tool usage
Obtain hands-on building skills
Integrate technology in construction
Learn the importance of safety in the workplace
Pre-Construction planning and estimating.

PREREQUISITES:
Algebra 1 with a grade of “C” or better
English 10 with a grade of “C” or better

CAMPUS LOCATION: Woodside Lane, Newport News

SESSIONS: AM and PM

CLASS SIZE: 20 students

NCCER Level 1, Skills USA

INSTRUCTOR BIO:  Mr. Broadhurst is a Master Electrician with 20 years of Construction experience.  He has been an instructor for 6 years.
