Course Description:   

Emergency Medical Technicians are part of one of three public safety divisions (EMS, Fire, and Law Enforcement).  Their job includes the daily routine of dealing with crisis, trauma, hazardous materials, illness, injuries and the training of mass casualties, disaster management, and terrorism awareness.  The work they do often means the difference between life and death.  Although the job can be stressful, EMT’s and Paramedics enjoy the challenge and excitement of their jobs and view them as an opportunity to make a real difference.

Work-Based Learning Opportunities:

Clinical Experience

Course Prerequisites:

Must be 16 years of age at the beginning of the course

Completed 10th grade English with a grade of “C” or better

Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language at the 10th grade level

Clinical experience may require drug testing and a COVID-19 vaccination and/or testing 

Must complete FEMA 100, 200, 700, 800 during the summer before class begins 

Must complete BLS for Healthcare Providers during the 1st weekend of school 

No physical/mental impairments that render them unable to perform all required practical skills

Must not have been found guilty of any crime involving sexual misconduct, abuse, neglect, theft from or financial exploitation, any crime involving use, possession, or distribution of illegal drugs, and any felonies.
